The Leukemia &Lymphoma Society invites patients and caregivers of those with certain blood cancers and conditions to attend a free educational program, on Feb. 9 at the Hilton Omaha’s St. Nicholas Room, 1001 Cass St., from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
\n 
\nThe free program is part of a regional American Society of Hematology conference sponsored by the University of Nebraska Medical Center for the last 12 years. National support is provided by Novartis, a global pharmaceuticals company.
\n 
\nParticipants will hear updates on new treatments and management of acute and chronic leukemia, thrombosis\/hemostasis, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative disorders. They also will hear about support resources available locally through LLS.
\n 
\nThe slate of speakers include nationally recognized oncologists from some of the leading cancer centers in the U.S. One of the speakers is Matthew Lunning, D.O., associate professor at UNMC and a lymphoma physician at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. UNMC oncologists are known for their expertise in treating leukemias and lymphomas. The cancer team has led and participated in research that has resulted in better cancer treatments and improved patient care around the world.

\n“This is a great opportunity for patients and caregivers to learn more about certain cancers,” said Phil Bierman, M.D., UNMC professor and oncologist at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. “The presentations will be lay-friendly and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions of some of the top oncologists in the country.”
