Dr. Poole elected to national leadership position<\/strong>
\nJill Poole, M.D, professor in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy, has been elected secretary of the Environmental and Occupational Respiratory Disease Interest Section in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI). The AAAAI is a professional organization with nearly 7,000 members in the United States, Canada and 72 other countries. Her two-year term will be followed by the position of vice chair, then chair, each which are two-year terms.
\n <\/strong>
\nDr. Armitage serves as editor-in-chief of ASCO Post<\/strong>
\nJames Armitage, M.D., is serving as editor-in-chief of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Post, a monthly publication that features news of evidence-based multidisciplinary cancer care to a broad audience of oncology professionals and ASCO members. It features clinical cancer research, policy news, patient care, clinical practice issues, and thoughtful commentary by leaders in the field of clinical oncology. Dr. Armitage began serving in 2010 when the Post was established. In addition, three other UNMC faculty currently serve on the editorial board: Elizabeth Reed, M.D., deputy editor; Alison Freifeld, M.D., and Chandra Are, M.B.B.S., associate editors. ASCO is made up of nearly 45,000 oncology professionals worldwide.

\nDr. Beachy is governor-elect for Nebraska Chapter of ACP<\/strong>
\nMicah Beachy, D.O., associate professor in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, has been elected as the next governor for the Nebraska chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP). The ACP is a national organization of internists, the largest medical-specialty organization, and second-largest physician group in the United States. Its 154,000 members include internists, internal medicine subspecialists, medical students, residents, and fellows.

\nNursing, medicine alumni councils seeking award nominees<\/strong>
\nThe College of Nursing and College of Medicine Alumni Councils are both seeking nominations for alumni awards to be presented during Alumni Reunion Weekend<\/span><\/a>, Oct. 11-12, 2019. Honor years are those ending in the numbers 4 or 9. There is a new, simplified nomination process — nominate a colleague today. Learn more about nursing nominations here<\/span><\/a>. \nPresentation highlights proposed psychiatry residency program<\/strong>
\nOn Dec. 12, the UNMC Department of Psychiatry held a presentation to discuss "A New Psychiatry Residency Program for Nebraska: A Vision for 2020 and Beyond." Daniel Gih, M.D., and Marley Doyle, M.D., who will be the new program directors, spoke at the event.
\nThe current combined residency program in psychiatry with Creighton University started in 1987. UNMC will begin a four-year separation process from Creighton and open a new psychiatry residency in 2020 pending approval by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

\nRural Radio Forum to celebrate 150th anniversary of the University of Nebraska<\/strong>
\n"Celebrating 150 Years of the University of Nebraska" is the topic of the next Rural Radio Forum. It will air on Feb. 12 from 3-4 p.m. (CST) on KRVN-AM (880), Lexington, KTIC-AM (840), West Point, and KTMX-FM (104.9), York, and from 2-3 p.m. (MST) on KNEB-AM (960), Scottsbluff, among other stations in the Rural Radio Network.

\nGuests on the program will include: Hank Bounds, Ph.D., president of the University of Nebraska system; chancellors Ronnie Green, Ph.D., of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., of UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Doug Kristensen, J.D., of the University of Nebraska at Kearney; and Ron Rosati, Ph.D., of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
