New workroom allows OB anesthesiologists to be ‘part of the team’<\/b>
\nA former exam room in Labor and Delivery at Nebraska Medicine now has a new and important purpose: offering a work space for the obstetrics and gynecology anesthesia staff. The room is equipped with desks and computers, shelves for reference materials and room for staff members to get work done.<\/p>\n

“It puts us closer to our patients in labor and delivery and our providers: nurses, OBs, family medicine doctors, midwives. It makes us more of a team,” said Cathleen Peterson-Layne, M.D., professor of anesthesiology at UNMC. <\/p>\n

The room also includes monitors where anesthesiologists can monitor fetal heart rates and maternal progress while they chart or do other work. The renovated space is located in University Tower, Room 4467.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kang to read from her work at McGoogan Library<\/b>

\nLydia Kang, M.D., will read from her work on Feb. 27 from noon-1 p.m., in the McGoogan Library of Medicine’s South Rare Book Room, on the eighth floor of Wittson Hall. <\/p>\n

Dr. Kang is a physician at Nebraska Medicine and a professor of internal medicine at UNMC. She writes young adult fiction, adult fiction and non-fiction, and poetry. Her works include “Quackery,” “A Beautiful Poison” and “The Impossible Girl.” Learn more about her books here<\/a>. The reading will be livestreamed here<\/a>. Light refreshments will be provided.
