The student chapter of UNMC Primary Care Progress is holding a March 6 conference dealing with the importance of effective communication for health care professionals. <\/p>\n

The conference is free and open to all interested in communications strategy. It includes both breakfast and lunch. The event also will be broadcast to the various satellite campuses across the state. The conference has two separate sessions, a plenary session in the morning, followed by a small group session in the afternoon. Separate registration is required for each session. <\/p>\n

The conference is planned as an enhancement to the training that UNMC health care professionals receive during school on communication with patients, families and colleagues. The keynote for this event is Calvin Chou, M.D., Ph.D., professor of clinical medicine at the University of California at San Francisco and staff physician at the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in San Francisco. <\/p>\n

Through his work with the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, he is recognized internationally for his work to enhance communication between patients and physicians. He is co-editor of the book “Communication Rx: Transforming Healthcare Through Relationship-Centered Communication.”<\/p>\n

Several local experts will speak on diversity, reducing health disparities and trauma-informed care. <\/p>\n
