{"id":64217,"date":"2019-02-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/02\/18\/schwartz-center-rounds-focuses-on-foster-care\/"},"modified":"2019-02-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-18T06:00:00","slug":"schwartz-center-rounds-focuses-on-foster-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/02\/18\/schwartz-center-rounds-focuses-on-foster-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Schwartz Center Rounds focuses on foster care"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Schalisha Walker, a youth adviser at Project Everlast, and three Project Everlast Youth Council members will join Maggie Neujahr, a social worker with the Munroe-Meyer Institute, for a Schwartz Center Rounds presentation on &#8220;Caring for Foster Children.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The Feb. 20 event will be from 11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m. in Eppley Science Hall, Room 3010.<\/p>\n<p>Fostering the Future, a Legacy Project sponsored by the Office of Community Engagement, and the Schwartz Center Rounds Committee, will host the event. Project Everlast is a statewide, youth-led initiative committed to providing resources, connections and support to young adults as they age out of foster care. <\/p>\n<p>Following the conference learners should be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe strategies to assist youth who are in foster care to navigate the health care system.\n<li>Identify barriers that foster children encounter when accessing the health care system.\n<li>Identify effective communication strategies to improve rapport building when serving children who are in the foster care system.<\/ul>\n<p>Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:45 a.m. to the first 70 participants.<\/p>\n<p>The UNMC Center for Continuing Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. <\/p>\n<p>The UNMC Center for Continuing Education designates this live activity for maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits&#8221;. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.<\/p>\n<p>1.0 contact hours will be awarded. Nebraska Medicine is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center&#8217;s Commission on Accreditation. Participants must be able to attend the entire presentation to receive contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded.<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"QPqYVr
