This Thursday, has been designated as House Officer Appreciation Day to recognize all the hard work house officers do at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.
\nA breakfast is set for 6 to 9:30 a.m. in private dining room C, where coffee also will be served until 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine leaders voice appreciation of residents: <\/p>\n

Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., said: “As patient care becomes increasingly complex, we depend more and more on the gifts our house officers have. We at Nebraska Medicine, UNMC and across the entire community that we serve, are grateful to you for all of your hard work, your dedication and your caring.”<\/p>\n

James Linder, M.D., CEO of Nebraska Medicine: “I know how important the work you do is to our patients. We’re very appreciative of that. I hope we can work with you to make your educational experience even better.”<\/p>\n

Bradley Britigan, M.D., dean of the College of Medicine: “The important role you play in the education of our medical students cannot be understated. You are crucial to their experience and the relationship that they have with you during their rotations adds much to their experiences.”<\/p>\n

Steven Wengel, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for campus wellness for UNMC and UNO: “Sir William Osler said, ‘The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.’ <\/p>\n

“In my daily work with residents, I am frequently struck by their incredible dedication to using both their hearts and their heads to heal. Our residents are amazing in their ability to juggle their roles as physicians, learners, and teachers, and never lose their focus on their patients in the process. I have the greatest respect and admiration for them.”<\/p>\n

Chandra Are, M.B.B.S., associate dean of graduate medical education: “Residents are one of the most important complements of our health care system. They tend to be the first, middle and last crucial links to our health care supply chain.<\/p>\n

“We acknowledge the sacrifices house officers continue to make to uphold the noble purpose of the physician profession, to heal the sick and infirm. So, on behalf of the GME Office and the entire campus, we thank all our house officers for their tireless work and dedication.
