The Healing Arts Program will host an artist talk and gallery reception on March 7 with local artist Mary Zicafoose, whose work is featured in the exhibition “Mary Zicafoose: Alchemy of Color & Cloth” at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

The artist talk will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the Gail and Mike Yanney Conference Center on the ground floor of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. The gallery viewing and a reception will follow in the Main Dining Room.<\/p>\n

For three decades, Zicafoose has been creating woven tapestries that are as visually compelling as they are narrative. An inspirational and dynamic presence in the textile world, Zicafoose reinterprets centuries old weaving traditions into contemporary cloth. Her work engages viewers in intimate dialogues between vibrant dyes, intricate patterns and archetypal shapes. <\/p>\n

A former Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts resident artist and USA Artist finalist, Zicafoose is an esteemed contributor to the United States Art in Embassies program, and her work is featured in 16 U.S. Embassy permanent and lending collections on four continents. <\/p>\n

She is a sought-after keynote speaker, teacher, public artist, mentor, and arts advocate, including appearances at the de Young Museum, San Francisco; Houston Museum of Fine Art; Penland School of Crafts, Penland, N.C.; Arrowmont School of Craft, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; and an extensive list of universities, conferences, solo and group exhibitions and museum and private collections worldwide.<\/p>\n

“Mary Zicafoose: Alchemy of Color & Cloth” is on view at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center during regular visiting hours, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., through May 3. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
