Two major public health issues — childhood obesity and access to healthy food — will be the focus of next month’s first Nebraska Healthy Kids Summit.<\/p>\n

The summit will be held April 23-24 at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center in Lincoln, Neb., and hosted by the Children’s Center for the Child and Community, UNMC’s Child Health Research Institute and seven other community partners.<\/p>\n

Public health and non\u2011profit professionals, clinicians, researchers and students will explore research, practice and advocacy approaches with the goal of developing a joint call to action to promote healthy eating and active living for children and families in Nebraska communities.<\/p>\n

In addition to the main summit’s activities, a pre\u2011summit workshop will explore the community impact of food security and access to healthy foods. The workshop will aim to identify ways communities and organizations can help build healthy food systems. <\/p>\n

The summit also will feature a research fair, which will showcase a variety of Nebraska research projects and practice\u2011focused evaluation efforts, as well as provide networking and resources for groups interested in engaging in future research projects. The research fair is currently accepting submissions for poster presentations and exhibitor tables. There is no fee to attend or present at the research portion of the event.<\/p>\n
