Davis History of Medicine Lecture at noon on April 16 at the Maurer Center for  Public Health, Room 3013.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Philo0328.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:0.85em; line-height:150%;\">Ron Philo, Ph.D.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Dr. Philo will speak on &#8220;Leonardo the Anatomist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Philo is a retired adjunct associate professor in the department of cell systems and anatomy at  University of Texas Health San Antonio, who spent more than 30 years teaching medical, dental and health professions students in the University of Texas Health Science Centers in Houston and San Antonio. He was the director of willed-body programs at each institution.  He is a former chair of the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to scientific articles and a guide to human anatomy, Dr. Philo has contributed to three art catalogs of the anatomical drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. Each was coauthored with Martin Clayton of Royal Collection Trust. These catalogs are &#8220;Leonardo da Vinci: The Anatomy of Man&#8221; (1992); &#8220;Leonardo da Vinci: The Mechanics of Man&#8221; (2010); and &#8220;Leonardo da Vinci: Anatomist&#8221; (2012). The catalogs were prepared for exhibitions of Leonardo drawings in Houston, Vancouver and London, respectively.  An app was produced with &#8220;Leonardo: Anatomist&#8221; &#8212; it is called &#8220;Leonardo da Vinci Anatomy,&#8221; by Royal Collection Trust, Primal, and TouchPress. <\/p>\n<p>A box lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. for the first 75 attendees. <\/p>\n<p>The event can be watched online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/livevideo\/unmc_live1.html\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Richard B. Davis, M.D., Ph.D., History of Medicine Lectureship brings national experts to the UNMC campus to discuss the history of medicine, in support of special collections at the McGoogan Library, including rare books and works on the history of medicine.<\/p>\n<p>The lectureship is supported through an endowed fund given by the late Richard B. Davis, M.D., Ph.D. (1926-2010), professor emeritus of internal medicine at UNMC, and his wife, Jean. Davis supported this lectureship out of his long-standing interest in the history of medicine; he was a faculty member at UNMC from 1969-1994.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ron Philo, Ph.D., will give 11th annual Richard B.
