{"id":65007,"date":"2019-05-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-16T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/05\/16\/unmc-departments-step-up-for-step-up\/"},"modified":"2019-05-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-05-16T05:00:00","slug":"unmc-departments-step-up-for-step-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/05\/16\/unmc-departments-step-up-for-step-up\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC departments step up for Step-Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>This summer, UNMC will again be participating in <a href=\"https:\/\/stepupomaha.com\/\">Step-Up Omaha<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Step-Up Omaha recruits, trains and places prepared Omaha youth and young adults, ages 14 to 21, in mutually beneficial paid summer jobs and work experience opportunities. Step-Up Omaha builds on the Empowerment Network and community partners&#8217; successes in hiring and placing more than 4,500 participants over the past 10 years. Based on its commitment to building a highly competitive workforce of the future, the City of Omaha is prepared to make a significant investment in helping to expand the employment program.<\/p>\n<p>Participating departments at UNMC will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chancellor&#8217;s office;\n<li>Human Resources;\n<li>Center for Healthy Living;\n<li>Summer Health Professions Education Program;\n<li>Regional Pathology Services;\n<li>Anesthesiology;\n<li>Family Medicine;\n<li>Internal Medicine, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism;\n<li>Radiation Oncology; and\n<li>The Eppley Institute\/Cancer Research Doctoral Program, which is seeking five interns to fill a two-year grant-funded position.<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the University of Nebraska at Omaha will be placing  a Step-Up intern in the department of human resources.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled so many UNMC departments have &#8216;stepped up&#8217; to provide work opportunities for youth and young adults,&#8221; said Aileen Warren, assistant vice chancellor for human resources. &#8220;For the last four years, UNMC has been a strong partner and supporter of the Step-Up program and UNO&#8217;s involvement this year will allow us to offer even more work experiences.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Step-Up participants will fill various positions, including office associates, office assistants, recreation assistants, media interns, client service representatives, educational technologists and lab interns.
