Colleen Svoboda named to national public health accreditation committee<\/b><\/p>\n

Colleen Svoboda, partnerships and assessment manager in the Office of Public Health Practice in the UNMC College of Public Health, was appointed to a three-year term to the Accreditation Improvement Committee (AIC) by the Public Health Accreditation (PHAB) board of directors last month. PHAB oversees national public health department accreditation.<\/p>\n

As part of the committee, Svoboda will consider potential revisions and provide recommendations and advice to improve national PHAB standards and measures and the accreditation process. As with any accrediting body, the standards and measures and the accreditation process require periodic review and revision.<\/p>\n

Svoboda joined the college in March and is responsible for partnerships and assessment. She provides facilitation and strategic planning to UNMC’s public health practice partners throughout the region. She also provides technical assistance for health departments seeking accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.<\/p>\n

Dr. Klepser serves on expert panel exploring influenza treatment<\/b><\/p>\n

Donald Klepser, Ph.D., associate professor and vice chair, department of pharmacy practice and science, UNMC College of Pharmacy, is serving as an expert panelist for The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) Payer Forum<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The three-part, on-demand forum will explore the safety and efficacy of available and emerging antivirals for the treatment of influenza virus. It is designed to educate managed care professionals and pharmacists about the use of antiviral treatments and how studies have shown that when patients are diagnosed with influenza in the early stages, it can decrease their symptoms and lessen the risk of complications.<\/p>\n

The expert faculty panel will facilitate a discussion on the identification of patients who may have influenza or who are at high risk of complications as well as the recommendations to effectively manage these patients. The panel also addresses how managed care organizations can employ prevention and treatment strategies to diminish associated complications, hospitalizations and mortality rates associated with this illness.<\/p>\n
