{"id":65966,"date":"2019-09-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/04\/new-roles-with-research\/"},"modified":"2019-09-04T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T05:00:00","slug":"new-roles-with-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/04\/new-roles-with-research\/","title":{"rendered":"New Roles with Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The Department of Internal Medicine Research Administration team is pleased to announce Dr. Kristina Bailey and Dr. Matthew Lunning have accepted new roles as Associate Vice Chairs of Research, in addition to their current roles, effective September 1st, 2019.&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDr. Bailey has been with UNMC beginning when she was a medical student and through her fellowship, which was completed here in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep &amp; Allergy. Her research is focused on mechanisms underpinning airway infection and understanding how our lung&rsquo;s natural defenses change as we age. Dr. Bailey is also highly involved in the Summer Undergraduate Alcohol Research Program as a student mentor and also the facilitator of weekly SUARP Sessions.&nbsp; As an Associate Vice Chair, Dr. Bailey will continue her role in research training \/ mentoring and will help to support basic science research in the Department.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDr. Lunning is an assistant professor and has been on faculty at UNMC since 2013. He completed his residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, including a year as Chief Resident. Dr. Lunning then completed his hematology\/oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center located in New York, NY. Dr. Lunning&rsquo;s expertise is in rare hematologic malignancies including Non-Hodgkin&rsquo;s Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma. Dr. Lunning is actively involved as a Summer Undergraduate Research Program mentor, in clinical research, and a member of the graduate student faculty.&nbsp; As an Associate Chair, Dr. Lunning will help to support and build clinical trial capacity across the department.&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nWe look forward to having both Drs. Bailey and Lunning involved as research efforts in the department continue to grow.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Internal Medicine Research
