{"id":66072,"date":"2019-09-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-26T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/26\/bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-nov-2\/"},"modified":"2022-09-27T15:57:13","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T20:57:13","slug":"bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-nov-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/26\/bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-nov-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridge to Care Refugee Health Fair set for Nov. 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Bridge to Care, a student-led interprofessional organization at UNMC focused on refugee health, will host its annual Fall Refugee Health Fair, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Omaha Benson High School.<\/p>\n<p>Bridge to Care is supported by the UNMC Center for Reducing Health Disparities and the Office of Community Engagement. UNMC students from all colleges will volunteer at the health fair alongside 22 community vendors, to provide health education, screenings and services to an expected 400-500 refugees from Omaha communities such as the Sudanese, Somali, Karen and Bhutanese.<\/p>\n<p>Free services will include vision assessment, dental screenings, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, blood pressure checks and glucose level screenings.<\/p>\n<p>UNMC groups that will contribute services for the refugees include: UNMC Departments of Ophthalmology and Dermatology, College of Pharmacy, SHARING Clinics, and Be the Match.<\/p>\n<p>Community vendors include NOAH Clinic, Creighton Family Medicine Residency Clinic, Creighton University Dental, One World, Charles Drew, Methodist Hospital, Methodist College, United Health Care, Douglas County Health Department and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n<p>Refugee cultural orientation with Alana Schriver, refugee specialist for the Omaha Public Schools, will be held Oct. 29, from noon-1 p.m. in Room 2010 of the Sorrell Center.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact <a href=\"mailto:josiane.kabayundo@unmc.edu\">Josiane Kabayundo<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:drissa.toure@unmc.edu\">Drissa Toure, M.D.<\/a>, community health program manager, UNMC College of Public Health.
