Members of the UNMC community are invited to attend the following events hosted by our community partners, The Durham Museum and Joslyn Art Museum. Events are free to attend, but may require pre-registration. See below for details.<\/p>\n

The Durham Museum, 801 S. 10th St., Omaha<\/b>
\nThe Durham Museum has announced the upcoming opening of its next exhibition, “Race: Are We So Different?” Developed by the American Anthropological Association in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota, “Race” is the first national exhibition to tell the stories of race from the biological, cultural and historical points of view. Combining these perspectives offers an unprecedented look at race and racism in the United States.<\/p>\n

Free admission day:<\/b> On Sunday, Sept. 29, from 1-5 p.m., Admission will be free for the entire community to come and visit the “Race” exhibit.<\/p>\n

Omaha Table Talk with Inclusive Communities:<\/b>
\nIn conjunction with “Race: Are We So Different?,” The Durham Museum on Oct. 15 from 5-7:30 p.m. will partner with Inclusive Communities to host a realistic conversation centered around the construct of race and its implications for our society as a part of the Omaha Table Talk series. The event, titled “Race, Really: The Myths and Realities of Racial Differences,” will be facilitated by Inclusive Communities staff and volunteers and will focus on the “reality” of race, myths, language and much more. Those interested in attending should RSVP online here<\/a> or email the Durham<\/a>. Registered guests will attend the event and gain admission to the museum at no cost.<\/p>\n

Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge St., Omaha <\/b>
\nMembers of the UNMC community are invited to enjoy the Joslyn’s new exhibit, “Word and Image: The Saint John’s Bible,” at a members-only preview event. A contemporary masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship, “The Saint John’s Bible” is the first handwritten, illuminated bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery since the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. Featuring 76 original pages from this unique bible and a selection of rare books and texts from other religious traditions, “Word and Image: The Saint John’s Bible” explores the relationship between faith, art, and the written word.<\/p>\n

Members preview reception:<\/b> The Oct. 4 event will start at 5:30 p.m., with a lecture at 6 p.m. presented by Tim Ternes, director of “The Saint John’s Bible” Project at the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library at Saint John’s University. Following the lecture, guests can view the exhibition and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Those interested in attending should RSVP by emailing the Joslyn<\/a>. Include your full name and number in party (members of the UNMC community are offered two free admissions, with a $10 charge for each additional guest). Please state that you are an employee or student of UNMC when making the reservation.
