\nWhat made you choose to become the program director:  <\/strong>
\nI have always taken a keen interest in the resident\/fellow learning experience even when fresh out of my own fellowship. By sheer volunteerism, I became incrementally involved in graduate medical education first with pediatric anesthesia fellows and then with our Anesthesia Residency Education Committee and Selection Committee. While the challenge of moving from fellowship to residency was a daunting one, I saw it as an opportunity to positively impact the educational experience of more learners at an earlier stage of their training.

\nWhat challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future:<\/strong> 
\nThe balance between getting a broad, comprehensive clinical experience in residency training complimented with maintaining emotional and personal well-being will continue to be a challenge to educators and learners.  
\n 
\nWhat are the strengths of your training program?<\/strong>
\nOur residency program has a couple unique features that add strength to an already robust clinical anesthesiology experience. Clinically, these include an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved rotation for a global health elective in Gitwe, Rwanda, additional training in perioperative echocardiography, and extensive transplant exposure. On the didactic side, the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology has a unique intranet site with opportunities for online learning, including modules, keywords, case reviews and articles.

\nList some accomplishments that you are proud of: <\/strong>
\nHonestly, I am proud to be entrusted with the education of all of our trainees every day. And I’m proud of all the hard work they put in and the amazing faculty that we have in our department that guide them in becoming independent, caring anesthesiologists.
