{"id":66296,"date":"2019-10-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/10\/14\/registration-still-open-for-idea-ctrs-scientific-meeting\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T17:37:40","modified_gmt":"2022-09-02T22:37:40","slug":"registration-still-open-for-idea-ctrs-scientific-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/10\/14\/registration-still-open-for-idea-ctrs-scientific-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration still open for IDeA-CTR&#8217;s scientific meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The registration period is nearly closed for the Great Plains IDeA-CTR Network&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/gpctr.unmc.edu\/training-education\/2019-annual-scientific-meeting\/\">Third Annual Scientific Meeting<\/a> on Oct. 23-24.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cmetracker.net\/UNMC\/Login?formname=RegLoginLive&#038;EventID=44293\">Registration<\/a>, which is free and open to the public, will close on Tuesday, Oct. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote speaker at the event, Krishan Arora, Ph.D., is the program director in the division for research capacity building at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). His presentation is titled, &#8220;From Lab to Market: Leveraging NIH SBIR\/STTR, Translational and Entrepreneurial Resources.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the event will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>visual information design specialist Hesham Hassan; and\n<li>Beverly Davidson, Ph.D., the chief scientific strategy officer and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting&#8217;s first day will feature a series of breakout sessions for attendees to choose from. Each session will highlight one of the following topics: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>building and sustaining research teams;\n<li>study sections and critiquing;\n<li>evidence-based intervention repositories and comparative effectiveness research;\n<li>intelligent algorithms in medicine; and\n<li>accessing and using electronic health record data for clinical-translational research.<\/ul>\n<p>One of the most highly anticipated activities of the event will again be the &#8220;CTR Superstar&#8221; award. The goal of this competition is to raise awareness of clinical and translational research conducted by promising scholars who are developing innovative tools and methods for medical research. The winning investigator\/team will receive a $20,000 pilot grant award to catalyze cutting-edge research that may translate to a sustainable product or a larger federal grant. Applicants will present their work to a panel of experts and the winner will be announced during the first day of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The Annual Scientific Meeting brings together scientific investigators (spanning basic, translational and clinical work), university or collegiate educators, administrators, healthcare professionals (e.g., physicians, advanced practice providers and nurses), public health experts, and many more.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about learning objectives and obtaining continuing medical education and continuing nursing education credits on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gpctr.unmc.edu\/training-education\/2019-annual-scientific-meeting\/\">Great Plains IDeA Center webpage<\/a>.
