Get your co-workers together and represent your department. Students? Represent your college. University pride (and some excellent t-shirts) are on the line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/cfhl\/intramural\/winter\/index.html\">Click here to learn more.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unmc.ezleagues.ezfacility.com\/sign_up.aspx\">Click here to sign up.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cost: $30 per team (if paid by Nov. 25).\n<li>All equipment provided.\n<li>No experience necessary.\n<li>Games last 30 minutes.\n<li>Teams play once a week.\n<li>No skates. We play in regular shoes.<\/ul>\n<p>Broomball leagues are held on Mondays and Tuesdays, and curling leagues are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The curling and broomball seasons run from Dec. 2-Jan. 30 (with the exception of a three-week holiday break from Dec. 15-Jan. 5).<\/p>\n<p>Register by Nov. 25 to secure your team&#8217;s spot in the league. To register, simply <a href=\"https:\/\/unmc.ezleagues.ezfacility.com\/sign_up.aspx\">fill out a short form<\/a> to create your team in EZLeagues and pay the team registration fee at the front desk of the Center for Healthy Living. Late registration may be accepted beyond Nov. 25; however, there will be an additional $10 late fee.<\/p>\n<p><b>About curling<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Although most people have seen curling in some capacity, few have had the opportunity to try it out themselves. Played with brooms and 40-pound stones made out of a special kind of Scottish granite, curling is likely the most unique recreational activity offered at UNMC. Once a week for six weeks, student and employee teams face off for 30-minute games at the university&#8217;s own ice rink in the middle of campus.<\/p>\n<p>UNMC&#8217;s intramural curling leagues require absolutely no prior experience, and are an excellent way to blow off some steam after work with co-workers or classmates. Curling is played on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, each with a 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and late (7-9 p.m.) league.<\/p>\n<p><b>About broomball<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Imagine a sport that looks like hockey, but without the skates, pads, and fights. In a nutshell, that&#8217;s broomball. At UNMC, broomball is played on the ice by two teams of five players with the aim of scoring points by hitting a small ball with a stick, called a broom, into their opponent&#8217;s goal. The rules really are that simple, which allows players to focus on the trickier task of maintaining balance and footing while running on the ice in shoes.<\/p>\n<p>Like curling, intramural broomball requires no prior experience. However, broomball is a much more active sport than curling, so participants can expect to get their cardio in for the day. All players are required to wear helmets which are provided every week.<\/p>\n<p>Intramural leagues are open to UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, and University of Nebraska at Omaha faculty, staff, students, retirees, volunteers and their families. Each team is allowed a limited number of non-UNMC\/Nebraska Medicine\/UNO individuals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Register by Nov. 25 to secure your
