Get a front row seat into the world of nursing and the many ways nurses impact the lives of people.<\/p>\n

Tune into the UNMC College of Nursing’s new podcast called “RN Huddle,” which launched this fall.<\/p>\n

Heidi Keeler, Ph.D., hosts each episode, which features local and national nursing experts providing topical information for nurses.<\/p>\n

Dr. Keeler, director of continuing nursing education and director of the Office of Community Engagement, UNMC College of Nursing Omaha Division, said the podcast is an extension of how continuing education connects with professionals. <\/p>\n

“When we looked at what podcasts were available for nurses by nurses, only a handful existed,” said Dr. Keeler, who also is an assistant professor. “This year, we developed our own podcast, thanks to strong collaboration with UNMC colleagues including those in public relations as well as some funding through an innovation award by UNMC’s Faculty Development Office.”<\/p>\n

The most recent episode features information about pressure injuries by Janet Cuddigan, Ph.D., professor in the College of Nursing and president of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel, and Renee Paulin, a nurse planner with the college’s continuing nursing education office. <\/p>\n

The podcasts, which can feature two or three guests, are about 15 minutes long and are recorded in the UNMC College of Nursing using high-quality equipment.<\/p>\n

“One key to a successful podcast is audio quality and voice,” said Courtney Smith, educational program manager, who records and edits each episode. “It’s important that you find the right space to record and that you make sure the speaker feels comfortable and passionate about their topic.”<\/p>\n

“A high-quality podcast starts before we record with a clear topic, a set format, and standards that reflect the organization’s values and standards,” Dr. Keeler said. “Our podcast can be heard on a number of platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play Music and iHeartRadio Podcast.”<\/p>\n

“The development of any podcast channel goes through different phases starting from scoping of the concept to the ideation process and finally to platform implementation. The understanding of the target audience and the collection of analytics to market podcasts can help to create engaging content,” said Maninder Hora, who is IT project manager in continuing nursing education.<\/p>\n

Upcoming topics include self-care and wellness, advice from a sexual assault nurse examiner, wellness using primordial prevention, and emergency department nursing. <\/p>\n
