Minter awarded Ida and George Eliot Prize for article<\/b><\/p>\n

Christian Minter, assistant professor and head of circulation services at the McGoogan Library of Medicine, with her collaborator Peace Ossom Williamson of The University of Texas at Arlington, was selected for the Medical Library Association 2020 Ida and George Eliot Prize for their article, “Exploring PubMed as a Reliable Resource for Scholarly Communications Services.”<\/a> <\/p>\n

The Eliot Prize is presented annually for a work published in the preceding calendar year that has been judged most effective in furthering medical librarianship. Minter will receive a certificate at the association’s annual meeting in August 2020.<\/p>\n

“Christian is not only one of our leading faculty members in service to the community and professional organizations, but she also has an active research agenda,” said Emily McElroy, dean of the McGoogan Library of Medicine. “It is great to see her efforts recognized through this prestigious award.”<\/p>\n

Virtual Olson Center Brown Bag will focus on cardiac genetics<\/b><\/p>\n

The next Olson Center brown bag will be April 21, noon to 1 p.m. and presented online only.<\/p>\n

The speaker, Douglas Stoller, M.D., Ph.D., will present “Cardiac Genetics: Present, Near-present and Future.” The impact of genetics in clinical medicine remains in its infancy, although significant growth is anticipated. This talk will outline the current role of genetics in cardiac disease management and discuss future applications including gene editing.<\/p>\n

Please pre-register by emailing Tammy Dawdy<\/a>, calling the Olson Center at 402-559-6345, or registering on Engage<\/a>. Viewing directions will be given to registrants prior to the brown bag presentation.<\/p>\n

The lecture is free. The cost for nursing creditis $10. Payment instructions will be given at preregistration.<\/p>\n

Retirement seminar postponed<\/b><\/p>\n

Due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty of when it will pass, the UNMC Benefits Office has made the determination to postpone the retirement seminar scheduled for May 21. Information on a new date will be provided when available. Questions? Contact Amanda Rasco<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Nebraska Medicine to consolidate labor\/delivery services at Nebraska Medical Center<\/b><\/p>\n

Nebraska Medicine will consolidate labor and delivery services at Nebraska Medical Center starting April 4.<\/p>\n

Expecting mothers who were planning to deliver at Bellevue Medical Center have been informed of the change by their prenatal care providers. <\/p>\n

As a global leader in infectious diseases research, treatment and education, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are currently preparing to treat additional patients who become infected with COVID-19. Part of this preparation includes identifying which areas are best suited to treat COVID-19 patients. That means temporarily moving patients out of the labor and delivery unit at Bellevue Medical Center to make more beds available at that location. <\/p>\n

It is not known yet how long this change will be in effect. Labor and delivery staff from Bellevue Medical Center will transition to Nebraska Medical Center during this time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
