He is located at NSRI&rsquo;s National Capital Region facility in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&quot;Tom&rsquo;s in-depth understanding of end-user requirements, sponsor needs, and the capabilities of academia and industry has already been a tremendous asset to our Institute,&quot; said Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Robert Hinson, NSRI executive director. &quot;As a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), we understand the importance of leading research in the areas that support the national security mission and deterrence requirements of our sponsors. Chemical threats have been an identified concern throughout our tenure, and there&rsquo;s tremendous demand for research in this critical area.&quot;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">Among his many responsibilities, Mueller will continue to grow<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nsri.nebraska.edu\/capabilities\/chembio\"><span style=\"color:black\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color:#1155CC\">NSRI&rsquo;s chemical defense research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:#333333\">, development and testing capabilities for both immediate projects as well as long-term strategic needs of the Department of Defense (DoD). He will collaborate directly with project sponsors, University of Nebraska faculty and students to identify and match current and projected federal government capability gaps with solution sets specifically within chemical defense.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">Mueller earned his doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in applied chemistry and counter-proliferation section at Johns Hopkins APL.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333\">&quot;NSRI has assembled a group of highly talented and mission-focused individuals to deliver capabilities that directly support the warfighter and national security,&quot; Mueller said. &quot;I&rsquo;m inspired knowing my team can deliver unique solutions that directly address gaps and provide the DoD the upper hand in CBRNE-related missions.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"V  ok LrEG  zhmQXr\"><!-- V  ok LrEG  zhmQXr --><\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Thomas Mueller, who joined NSRI in 2018, brings forward nearly a decade of senior-level experience in&nbsp;chemical research and development&nbsp;from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and Battelle Memorial Institute.
