Vijaya Raj Bhatt, MD, is part of an international panel that created guidelines on managing acute leukemias and myeloid neoplasms in COVID-19 times. Dr. Bhatt is an associate professor and medical director of the leukemia program in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine Division of Hematology-Oncology.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bhatt said the pandemic has been a major challenge for the oncology community and for optimal care for patients. <\/p>\n

He said the guidelines address the challenges of caring for cancer patients with acute leukemias and myeloid neoplasms since they are apt to do poorer following infections. The group addressed changes related to service allocation, clinical and supportive care, clinical trial participation and ethical considerations of lifesaving measures. <\/p>\n
