Again, Nebraska Medical Center is the No. 1 rated hospital in the Omaha metro area and in the state of Nebraska. Additionally, the cancer and gastroenterology and gastrointestinal (GI) surgery programs both received national rankings. Earning &#8220;Best&#8221; honors from U.S. News places Nebraska Medical Center among the elite hospitals in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally ranked programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cancer, No. 34\n<li>Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, No. 41<\/ul>\n<p>U.S. News also rated two other programs as high performing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nephrology\n<li>Pulmonology and lung surgery<\/ul>\n<p>Six procedures and conditions were rated as high performing, the highest ranking possible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aortic valve surgery\n<li>Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease\n<li>Colon cancer surgery\n<li>Heart bypass surgery\n<li>Heart failure\n<li>Lung cancer surgery<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;We are incredibly honored to again be included on this prestigious list,&#8221; said James Linder, MD, CEO of Nebraska Medicine. &#8220;Having our cancer and gastroenterology programs receive national rankings further solidifies our place among the top medical institutions in the country. We understand our patients have a choice where they receive care and hope this achievement will provide another reason to trust that they will receive world-class care at all of our hospitals and health centers across the region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the 2020-21 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 16 specialties, 10 procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 134 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized best regional hospitals based on high performing rankings across multiple areas of care.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For more than 30 years, U.S. News &#038; World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,&#8221; said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. &#8220;The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and
