On Wednesday, Aug. 26, the Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium will be presented virtually from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. via the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI) event website and Zoom. <\/p>\n

Health care providers, faculty, staff, students and the public are invited to attend; the symposium is free to all participants. This year’s symposium will feature research and advocacy efforts related to two themes. The session from 9-11:15 a.m. will focus on water quality, and the session from 11:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. is geared towards “Return to Learn,” an initiative to support the learning needs of children with chronic illnesses. <\/p>\n

Both sessions will conclude with a panel discussion featuring a selection of Nebraska senators — Sen. Tom Brandt, Sen. Tony Vargas, Sen. Lynne Walz, Sen. Matt Williams and Sen. Anna Wishart. Scientific and community-oriented posters will be available to view and comment on beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19 on the CHRI event website<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“This year’s virtual symposium will allow participants to gain insight into the work of our investigators in multiple disciplines, including our evaluation of water quality in Nebraska, while raising awareness regarding some of the obstacles our pediatric cancer families face on a daily basis,” said Don Coulter, MD, Pediatric Cancer Research Group director. “With returning to school being on many people’s minds currently, the topic is especially timely.” \u202f <\/p>\n

The Pediatric Cancer Research Group was founded in 2014 in response to philanthropic and legislative support to develop pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, Fred and Pamela Buffet Cancer Center and UNMC.\u202fThe group has grown to over thirty investigators, each completing investigations in epidemiology, basic science and translational research.\u202f<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
