All faculty, staff and students are reminded that when they come to the UNMC or University of Nebraska at Omaha campuses this fall, they must use the campus-specific apps — 1-Check UNMC<\/a> and 1-Check UNO<\/a> — every day<\/b> to self-screen if they plan on being physically present on campus. <\/p>\n

This screening should take place before arriving on campus and should take less than a minute to complete. <\/p>\n

“Faculty, staff and students must refrain<\/b> from coming to campus if they or someone in their house is sick with a COVID-19-like illness or if their 1-Check UNMC results advise them to do so,” said Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, chancellor of UNMC and UNO.<\/p>\n

Some universities across the country have struggled this fall to contain COVID-19 once classes began, noted Jane Meza, PhD, UNO interim executive director for health security, and Ted Cieslak, MD, UNMC interim executive director for health security. Vigilance and concern for the safety of others is necessary as more students, faculty and staff begin to return to UNMC and UNO. <\/p>\n

“It is crucial that members of our university community take these simple self-screening steps to protect their fellow students, faculty, and staff members this semester,” Dr. Meza said. “If we stay committed to each other’s health and wellbeing, the actions we take as individuals will have a profound, positive impact that will extend into the broader Omaha community.”<\/p>\n

“Our top priority at UNMC and UNO is the health and well-being of our students, staff and faculty,” Dr. Cieslak said. “To ensure that, we must rely on each other.” <\/p>\n

“We are well aware that these are challenging times, and we will work hard with students and staff as needs arise to address all questions of educational progress and job performance responsibilities,” Dr. Gold said. “But it is of paramount important that we self-screen using our campus-specific apps and that we respond appropriately if the results tell us not to come onto campus, get tested or receive health care advice.
