Shinobu Watanabe-Galloway, PhD, professor and vice chair of the UNMC Department of Epidemiology and previously the graduate program committee director for the department, has been appointed as the associate director for community outreach and engagement (COE) at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at UNMC. In her new role, Dr. Watanabe-Galloway will focus on building population science research on campus while working with other leaders to build infrastructure for community-engaged cancer research. <\/p>\n

“This role aligns with Dr. Watanabe-Galloway’s previous experience in rural cancer disparities research and her skills will be an asset to the COE as they administer their mission across rural and especially underserved communities,” said Kenneth Cowan, MD, PhD, director of the Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center seeks to engage with a multitude of community organizations for cancer education training, screening and lifestyle-related issues — including rural communities and under-served populations such as those in the African American, Latino and Native American communities. The COE will play a key role in promoting cancer trials, evidence-based cancer practices and initiating the development of cancer-related policies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
