{"id":70112,"date":"2021-02-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2021\/02\/19\/research-highlights-78\/"},"modified":"2022-08-29T17:03:24","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T22:03:24","slug":"research-highlights-78","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2021\/02\/19\/research-highlights-78\/","title":{"rendered":"Research highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The UNMC College of Medicine received new grant and funding awards representing $2,172,002 in new funding in December.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><B>Aaron Barksdale, MD<\/b>, emergency medicine, received a grant of $37,597 from the University of Minnesota for &#8220;Influence of cooling duration of efficacy in cardiac arrest patients (ICECAP) trial CSPR#003.&#8221;\n<li><b>Shannon Buckley-McKeown, PhD<\/b>, genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $150,000 from the American Society of Hematology for &#8220;Ubiquitin E3 ligase UBR5 mutations in mantle cell lymphoma initiation and B cell development.&#8221;\n<li><B>Alison Freifeld, MD<\/b>, internal medicine-infectious diseases, received a grant of $80,000 from Weill Medical College of Cornell University for &#8220;Screening for resistant enteric bacteria to personalize infection prevention strategies in neutropenic patients.&#8221;\n<li><b>Vikas Gulati, MD<\/b>, ophthalmology and visual sciences, received a grant of $119,280 from the Ohio State University for &#8220;Aqueous humor dynamic components that determine intraocular pressure variance.&#8221;\n<li><B>Georgette Kanmogne, PhD<\/b>, pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $191,250 from the National Institutes of Health\/Department of Health and Human Services\/National Institute of Mental Health for &#8220;Preventing Alzheimer&#8217;s disease-like brain pathology in HIV infection by targeting CCR5.&#8221;\n<li><B>Marilyn Larson, PhD<\/b>, pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $23,000 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha for &#8220;XPED phase III support fall\/spring 2020-21.&#8221;\n<li><B>Daniel Monaghan, PhD<\/b>, pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $461,131 from the National Strategic Research Institute for &#8220;Biologic and chemical threat characterization and medical countermeasure development.&#8221;\n<li><B>Stephen Obaro, MBBS<\/b>, pediatrics-infectious diseases, received a grant of $85,778 from Case Western Reserve University for &#8220;SMART (Sickle and malaria accurate remote testing).&#8221;\n<li><B>Kari Simonsen, MD<\/b>, pediatrics-infectious diseases, received a grant of $10,500 from the University of California-San Diego for &#8220;Kawasaki disease comparative effectiveness trial (KIDCARE).&#8221;\n<li><B>Siwei Zhao, PhD<\/b>, surgery-transplant, received a grant of $48,546 from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for &#8220;Electrical stimulation of endogenous adipose-derived stem cells for chronic wound healing.&#8221;\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Industry-sponsored grants and contracts:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The following industry-sponsored contracts and foundation grants were received. neurological sciences, received funding for the Registry for the Advancement of Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson&#8217;s Disease (RAD-PD).\n<li><B>Matthew Lunning, DO<\/b>, internal medicine-oncology-hematology, received funding for &#8220;Expanded access protocol (EAP) for patients receiving lisocabtagene maraleucel that is nonconforming for commercial release.&#8221;\n<li><B>Alissa Marr, MD<\/b>, internal medicine-oncology and hematology, received funding for &#8220;Pivotal, randomized, open-label study of tumor treating fields (TTFields) concurrent with standard of care therapies for treatment of stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following platinum failure (LUNAR).&#8221;\n<li><B>Russell McCulloh, MD<\/b>, pediatrics-hospitalists, received protocol funding for CoVPN 3501: Eli Lilly (LY3819253).\n<li><B>Scott Westphal, MD<\/b>, internal medicine-nephrology, received funding for the PROspera Kidney
