UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, sent the following message to the UNMC community on Thursday.<\/i><\/p>\n

We at UNMC are shocked and saddened by reports of acts of intimidation, racism and violence committed against members of the Asian American community. The recent mass shooting and murder of eight people in Georgia is horrific. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all of those impacted and to the communities who are responding to this tragic violence. We must not ignore the reality that this is not an isolated incident, or that acts of ignorance and hate have also happened here in our community.
\n

We at the medical center are committed to making the world a better place and to making our campuses safe and welcoming environments for all to work, teach and learn.
\n

If you ever are made to feel unsafe, please call campus security immediately. If you are made to feel uncomfortable, please reach out to our Office of Inclusion, or to our Public Safety team. And please take advantage of the many resources we have available to our campus community. We are here for you, and for one another.
\n

Let us keep our own eyes and ears open and be mindful of how our fellow colleagues may see, hear and feel things. It is incumbent upon all of us to be allies to one another and for one another.
