This summer, UNMC Facilities installed a 1,200-pound concrete medallion of the University of Nebraska seal above the 42nd Street entrance of Wittson Hall between Dewey Avenue and Emile Street. The new medallion — 7 feet in diameter and five inches wide — was made from a casting of the original, lighter weight fiberglass medallion. The new piece consists of concrete reinforced with glass fiber.

The new exterior — accented by two-story glass — is part of the Wittson Hall renovation and Wigton Heritage Center construction projects and creates a more inviting east entrance.

Wittson Hall — formerly known as the Basic Science Building — was constructed in 1968 and dedicated by former Gov. Norbert Tiemann in April 1969. In 1972, the building was renamed in honor of Cecil Wittson, MD, dean of the College of Medicine and president and chancellor of the med center in the late 1960s and early 1970s.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
