Jasmine Marcelin, MD, recently gave a TEDxOmaha Talk on “The Myth of the Healthcare Hero.”

In the talk, Dr. Marcelin discusses how, after more than a year of COVID-19, health care workers are exhausted, decimated by the pandemic, and their emotional and energy bank is running on empty. The talk highlights the critical role that many other frontline workers are playing and the often-devastating impact COVID has taken on these unsung individuals.
\n

“It’s been common to hear health care workers being called heroes throughout the pandemic, but in this TEDx talk, I explain why that’s a myth,” Dr. Marcelin said.
\n

“This message was recorded months ago but sadly still remains relevant today; as we see COVID-19 resurging across the country, this is a reminder that our work as a community is not done. We need people to get vaccinated and<\/i> we need to maintain our effective public health measures in order for us to get to the other side of this pandemic.”
\n

Dr. Marcelin is an assistant professor of infectious diseases and associate medical director of antimicrobial stewardship and associate program director of the internal medicine residency at UNMC.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
