UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, will be honored by The Wellbeing Partners with a Lifetime Achievement Award for leadership at the Omaha nonprofit’s annual Ignite Awards Gala Oct. 5.<\/p>\n

Dr. Gold is among the local individuals, organizations and community leaders to be celebrated for their roles in making the community a healthier place. Serese Cole of KMTV will emcee the awards ceremony. Registration now is open for the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, leadership by members of the physician and health care community has become ever more important. We are proud of the leadership role UNMC has taken in combatting this pandemic and providing practical, science based information concerning it. I accept this award not only on my own behalf, but in honor of the health care educators, scientists, physicians and other staff of UNMC who have been local and national leaders in the fight against COVID-19."<\/p>\n

Dr. Gold is a nationally recognized leader and tireless advocate for transforming higher education, academic medicine and health care delivery. He also has emerged as a national leader in educational, workplace and community wellness, especially during the ongoing pandemic.<\/p>\n

His Lifetime Achievement Award is among the Sister Norita Cooney Illuminate Awards, which honor Sister Norita Cooney, who died in 2011. Sr. Cooney served as the first president of the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community and was instrumental in the founding of Live Well Omaha in 1995 and Alegent Health in 1996.
