UNMC will co-sponsor the upcoming international conference, "COVID-19 in the MENA Region: Lessons Learned in Research, Public Health Policy and Clinical Practice."<\/p>\n

This scientific forum, to be held May 30 and 31 at Gaziantep University in Turkey, reaffirms UNMC's strong commitment to building global health bridges between scientists policymakers and researchers in North America and Europe, along with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.<\/p>\n

The strategically-designed conference will gather experts and distinguished researchers from affected countries, including the United States and European nations, to share lessons learned and to establish and promote partnerships and affiliations with health organizations and universities from around the globe. <\/p>\n

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on overstretched and unprepared health systems is tremendous. The MENA region faces multiple political, economic, social and environmental challenges, including the implications of COVID-19 on health, education, agriculture, health security systems and economies. The pandemic contributed to the collapse of several MENA countries’ economic and health care systems.<\/p>\n

The conference will span two days and host prominent health and policymakers, practitioners and researchers from the MENA region, Turkey and other areas. The conference format will include keynote and plenary speakers, panel discussions and workshops and select roundtable discussions.<\/p>\n

"Together with our partners from the MENA Region, we have created a unique platform from which UNMC’s unique leadership in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic can be showcased and shared with colleagues in such an important region of the world," said Jane Meza, PhD, associate vice chancellor for global engagement.<\/p>\n
