The UNMC College of Medicine has received full, eight-year accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, announced Tuesday at his monthly forum.
\n

\u201cThe accreditation standards have become more and more rigorous every cycle,\u201d Dr. Gold said, while congratulating Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, and the college of medicine leadership team.
\n

The follow up and the \u201cto-do\u201d lists are more and more complex, he said, adding that they continue to involve many more people.
\n

Dr. Britigan thanked Geoffrey Talmon, MD, associate dean of medical education, Renee Alley, accreditation and curriculum coordinator, and their team on the successful re-accreditation.
\n

\u201cThis is a painstaking process, and successful reaccreditation is critical to the college,\u201d Dr. Britigan said. \u201cAn enormous amount of effort went into this, and I\u2019m proud of our accreditation team and all of those who contributed to the reaccreditation process.\u201d
\n

The LCME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accrediting agency for medical education programs leading to the MD degree. It reviews 12 standards and 93 elements that a medical school must meet to receive accreditation. As part of the review process, UNMC hosted a site visit from LCME in October 2021. Due to the pandemic this site visit occurred virtually, adding to the challenges of the process.

Dr. Talmon also expressed his thanks to his team and the entire college.

\u201cWe\u2019ve achieved full accreditation, the optimal outcome, and there were no less than 75 people involved in this effort,\u201d he said. \u201cFrom college leadership to individual faculty to the many students who were involved, this was the result of all the hard work everyone put in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
