The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing $8,067,023 in new funding in March.<\/p>\n

Xinglong Wang, PhD, <\/b>pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $1,460,552 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIA to study mitochondrial TDP-43 in Alzheimer's disease and a grant of $150,000 from the Alzheimer’s Association to study TDP-43 liquid-liquid phase separation in Alzheimer's disease.<\/p>\n

Russell McCulloh, MD, <\/b>pediatrics-hospitalists, received a grant of $698,396 from the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute for the RECOVER Phase II Pediatric Cohort.<\/p>\n

Derrick Samuelson, PhD,<\/b> internal medicine-pulmonary, received a grant of $693,330 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIDDK to study gut bacterial metallophores in the development and severity of inflammatory bowel disease.<\/p>\n

Larisa Poluektova, MD, PhD,<\/b> pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $610,497 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAID to study a new generation of long-acting nucleotides and immune stimulant for treatment of chronic hepatitis B.<\/p>\n

Tammy Kielian, PhD,<\/b> pathology and microbiology, received a a grant of $580,182 from the DHHS\/NIH\/NIAID to study how T cell-innate immune crosstalk regulates Staphylococcus aureus craniotomy infection.<\/p>\n

Shanna Ratnesar-Shumate, PhD,<\/b> pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $380,955 from the Battelle Memorial Institute to study the potential for accidental laboratory exposure to biohazards.<\/p>\n

Ellen Kerns, PhD,<\/b> pediatrics-child health, received a grant of $342,249 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for the Data Coordinating and Operations Center for the ECHO IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network.<\/p>\n

Paul Fey, PhD,<\/b> pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $282,393 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAID to study mechanisms of staphylococcal skin colonization.<\/p>\n

Jana Broadhurst, MD, PhD,<\/b> pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $165,401 from Rush University Medical Center for "Preserving Cognitive Resilience: A Biracial Parent-Offspring Study."<\/p>\n

Maegen Wallace, MD,<\/b> orthopaedic surgery, received a grant of $90,066 from the Baylor College of Medicine for the Brittle Bone Disorders Consortium of the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network.<\/p>\n

Ashley Deschamp, MD,<\/b> pediatrics-pulmonary, received a grant of $86,496 from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for the Data Coordinating and Operations Center for the ECHO IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network.<\/p>\n

Geoffrey Thiele, PhD,<\/b> internal medicine-rheumatology, received a grant of $60,000 from the Rheumatology Research Foundation to study how citrullinated and malondialdehyde-acetaldehyde modified proteins promote cellular and immune responses associated with rheumatoid arthritis.<\/p>\n

Aaron Barksdale, MD,<\/b> emergency medicine, received a grant of $44,575 from the University of Michigan for a trial of the influence of cooling duration of efficacy in cardiac arrest patients.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Cooper, MD,<\/b> emergency medicine, received a grant of $42,000 from the University of Michigan for a hyperbaric oxygen brain injury treatment trial.<\/p>\n

Amar Singh, PhD,<\/b> biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $30,150 from South Dakota State University for a study on a strategy for safe colon-targeted local therapy of inflammatory bowel disease.<\/p>\n
