Ashley Wysong, MD, accepted into fellowship for executive leadership<\/b><\/p>\n

Ashley Wysong, MD, professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Dermatology, has been accepted into the 2022-2023 fellowship for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women at Drexel University College of Medicine. The ELAM fellowship was designed for senior women in leadership roles to develop the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today’s complex health care environment, particularly to the unique challenges facing women in leadership positions.<\/p>\n

“I am honored to be nominated and selected as an ELAM Fellow for 2022-2023,” Dr. Wysong said. “This intensive year-long program will allow me to engage with a cohort of academic leaders from across the country and will be impactful for me in many ways. I look forward to the opportunity to learn and to bring back lessons to my roles here at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Wysong joins 71 other fellows in the 2022-2023 class of ELAM, the largest class in the program\u2019s history after a record number of applicants this year.<\/p>\n

The ELAM’s effective approach to leadership preparation is broadly recognized within the academic health community. ELAM alumnae number more than 1,200 and serve in leadership positions at 295 academic health centers worldwide. To be accepted into the program, each fellow must be nominated and supported by her institution’s dean or another senior official.<\/p>\n

CHRI Pediatric Academic Workshop to focus on research, writing and publication<\/b><\/p>\n

The Child Health Research Institute\u2019s Pediatric Academic Workshop will take place Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop will educate attendees on how to leverage health care databases and report research for publication in a journal. These segments and an additional segment on promotion and tenure will be available to all registrants either in-person or via Zoom. The workshop also will feature a paper-in-a-day active learning model, which invites participants to team up as co-authors on a real project. The paper-in-a-day exercise is in-person, limited to the first 15 registrants and will take place at Children\u2019s Hospital & Medical Center locations.<\/p>\n

The workshop will start\u00a0with Children\u2019s Grand Rounds, featuring Rebecca Cantu, MD, associate professor, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Division of Hospital Medicine, Department of Pediatrics,\u00a0speaking on “Just the Databasics: Getting Started with Databases for Research.” Dr. Cantu\u2019s talk will be followed by the promotion and\u00a0tenure panel discussion presentation and then by a session on health care databases. The paper-in-a-day components will begin at 10:30 a.m. Expected topics will include “Overcoming the Blank Page – How to Organize Your Writing and Work with a Scientific Writer” and “How to Research References.”<\/p>\n
