In addition to providing general neurosurgical care, I specifically treat patients who have had a stroke or are at risk of one; patients who are at risk of hemorrhage from aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas and cavernous malformations; and patients with trigeminal neuralgia, headache and facial pain. In addition, I provide novel minimally-invasive therapies for high pressure in the brain (venous sinus stenting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension) or low pressure states (spontaneous intracranial hypotension due to CSF-venous fistula).<\/p>\n<p><b>How did you fall in love with medicine:&nbsp;<\/b>I am motivated by a good challenge, and nothing drives me more than providing safe, effective&nbsp;and novel treatment for complex disorders of the brain and spinal cord. Each ounce of tissue we handle may house a person&#39;s personality, memory, sense of humor or their ability to move or talk. The central nervous system is sacred and deserves to be treated as such. I like to think that any new skill or knowledge I can acquire might one day allow a patient to continue to be the best version of themselves. I find it very gratifying to see patients pull through their surgery and return to the activities they love.<\/p>\n<p><b>Memberships:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Congress of Neurological Surgeons<\/li>\n<li>Society of British Neurological Surgeons<\/li>\n<li>Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons, England<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Three things people don&rsquo;t know about me:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical activity helps me de-stress and enjoy the world around me. Past endeavors have included cycling 100 miles in a day, dabbling in triathlons, sailing in the Mediterranean and scuba diving in the Indian Ocean.<\/li>\n<li>I describe my citizenship and my accent as &quot;confused.&quot; I grew up in Malta and went to medical school there, then did residency in the U.K. and then moved to the U.S. for fellowship and to practice.<\/li>\n<li>My dog is far better behaved than my children.
