{"id":78534,"date":"2022-08-30T10:14:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T15:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=78534"},"modified":"2022-09-01T08:17:02","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T13:17:02","slug":"resident-of-the-month-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/08\/30\/resident-of-the-month-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Resident of the month"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><b><span style=\"color:black\">Name:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:black\"> Brad Huff, MD<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">Medical school you attended\/year you graduated:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:black\"> University of Washington School of Medicine, Class of 2020<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">Residency\/fellowship at UNMC:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:black\"> Emergency medicine <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">Program director<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:black\">: Chad Branecki, MD<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC?<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">Three-year training program; I have been at UNMC since 2020. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">What do you like the most about your training program? <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">What I like the most about my training program is the variability in location and different styles of medicine that we are exposed to. We train in large academic centers, community and rural locations, alongside toxicology and in children\u2019s hospitals.&nbsp;Our training program uses ultrasound extensively, which has allowed me to become proficient in its use in order to provide better care for our patients at the bedside. All in all, this training program has allowed me to grow and become a more well-rounded physician with the ability to practice medicine in any setting. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future? <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">Burnout. It\u2019s here now and will continue to be an issue in the future. It is a difficult balance between working until the &nbsp;point of exhaustion and the need to get more repetitions to be competent physicians. There is never going to be a &#8220;one plan fits all&#8221; to prevent this. Continuing to identify this issue, talk about it and learn from it is key to managing it in residency and our careers. Identifying burnout and seeking help is not a sign of weakness but strength. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">List some accomplishments that you are proud of:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black\">Making it to the final year of residency!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black\">Presenting research internationally in Gaziantep, Turkey. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black\">Buying our first home. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black\">Serving four years in the Navy, two tours. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"color:black\">Tell us three things about you that others may not know:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I have road biked across the U.S. (California to Virginia) in 49 days for charity.<\/li>\n<li>I was a bartender before joining the Navy and pursuing medicine.<\/li>\n<li>I was born in Lethbridge, Alberta,
