People never know when they might encounter an emergency. On Aug. 29, more than 500 colleagues and students from Nebraska Medicine, UNMC and Clarkson College learned how to stop traumatic bleeding \u2013 and potentially save a life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STOP THE BLEED is a national initiative that trains people to recognize life-threatening bleeding and intervene effectively by apply pressure, packing a wound or applying a tourniquet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s still an opportunity to gain a valuable new skill \u2013 the next session will be held on Sept. 14 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Truhlsen Events Center inside UNMC’s Sorrell Center. Colleagues can register for a 30-minute session after completing a short online course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colleagues who are eligible and interested in volunteering as trainers can fill out this <\/a>interest <\/a>form<\/a>, and those who are interested in volunteering in support roles such as check-in and traffic control can volunteer here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training is a partnership between Nebraska Medicine\u2019s trauma program and the UNMC HEROES program, with funding provided by the Nebraska Medicine Guild and University of Nebraska Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
