{"id":91298,"date":"2022-09-18T23:57:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T04:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=91298"},"modified":"2022-09-19T09:46:55","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T14:46:55","slug":"center-for-healthy-living-to-hold-open-house-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/09\/18\/center-for-healthy-living-to-hold-open-house-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Center for Healthy Living to hold open house events"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/events.unmc.edu\/event\/cfhl_open_house#.YlBW5ejMKUk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Center for Healthy Living<\/a> is hosting a series of open house events beginning today and running through Wednesday, Sept. 21, including free use of fitness facilities, free fitness classes, free popcorn and facility tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center is located in the Student Life Center and offers a variety of activities and services that encourage wellness among faculty, staff and students. Memberships, intramural sports, special events and fitness classes are available to all UNMC, University of Nebraska at Omaha and Nebraska Medicine faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni, volunteers, contracted employees and affiliated organizations. Additional information on membership is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/cfhl\/membership\/pricing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">center\u2019s <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/cfhl\/membership\/prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities planned for the Open House include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tours<\/strong><br>CFHL staff members will provide guided tours of the facility, including its multipurpose gymnasium, men\u2019s and women\u2019s locker rooms, health and fitness classrooms and the Thomas M. Heiser Strength and Fitness Facility. Twenty-minute tours are open to individuals or groups on a walk-in basis between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fitness Center 101<\/strong><br>Is the idea of going to a fitness center intimidating? The fitness staff wants to help. Join fitness specialist\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:ppellerito@unmc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peter Pellerito<\/a> to determine helpful starting goals and receive hands-on guidance for the most effective ways to stretch and use CFHL\u2019s cardio and weight machines. Sessions will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday at noon. Or contact Pellerito by <a href=\"mailto:ppellerito@unmc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">email<\/a> or 402-559-5253 to schedule a different day and time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In-person fitness classes<\/strong><br>Potential members can attend any instructor-led fitness classes for free:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Full Body Fitness (Tuesdays &amp; Thursdays, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)<\/li><li>Cycle Circuit (Thursdays, 6:15 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.)<\/li><li>Total Body Conditioning (Mondays, 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.)<\/li><li>Yoga (Mondays &amp; Wednesdays, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesdays &amp; Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For information on open house events or Center for Healthy Living membership, call
