UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, is among a group of esteemed surgeon educators being inducted today (Sept. 30) as members in the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators during an event in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gold was one of the member inductees into this highly coveted academy this year. Individuals are selected as members, associate members or affiliate members following a stringent peer review process. There were 64 members, affiliate members and associate members inducted this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am honored to have been nominated and now to be inducted into this prestigious academy,\u201d Dr. Gold said. \u201cThe ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators is all about collaboration and innovation. I look forward to working alongside my fellow members to further advance surgical education in the ever-changing health care climate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The academy works to advance the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties. Through dynamic programming, members have addressed the impact of the COVID pandemic on surgical training, physician wellness and disparities in surgical education, among several other initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gold has been certified by the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, specializing in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. He has been repeatedly recognized as a top 50 health care executive and as a top 100 physician executive. Dr. Gold has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 350 national presentations, 40 books and chapters and more than 300 invited professorships and keynote presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis academy of preeminent surgeon educators has been making landmark contributions to surgical education and is introducing many transformational changes in surgical education that will endure into the future,\u201d said Ajit Sachdeva, MD, director of the ACS Division of Education and co-chair of the steering committee of the academy. \u201cWe look forward to leveraging the expertise of the members as we explore innovations that will continue to advance the field of surgical education and positively impact the careers of surgical educators.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2018, the academy has grown to include 365 members, associate members and affiliate members, representing six surgical specialties other than general surgery.
