Members of the congressional staffs of U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer, U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse and U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith visited UNMC earlier this month, meeting with Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and other UNMC leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit included a research overview and discussion on drug discovery led by Vice Chancellor for Research Ken Bayles, PhD, and presentations on the Global Center for Health Security\u2019s work on such issues as preparing for the next pandemic or biological threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visitors also took part in a Stop the Bleed training, as well as a discussion of UNMC\u2019s rural health initiatives with Nikki Carritt, director of rural health initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a discussion of the value of telehealth during the pandemic and beyond, the staff members met with Michael Dixon, PhD, CEO of UNeMed, and toured the National Quarantine Unit and one of UNMC\u2019s Simulation-in-Motion Nebraska trucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe partnership between UNMC and the federal government is an important one, and has become more apparent during the COVID pandemic,\u201d said Mark Bowen, director of government relations for UNMC. \u201cOur Nebraska U.S. senators and representatives are important allies as UNMC continues to further build its national reputation.
