Jessica Behrhorst, senior director for health care improvement at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, will speak on \u201cBehaviors that Support Safe Systems: Making Patients and the Workplace Safer\u201d during a noon CT presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than three decades, the institute has focused on advancing and sustaining better health and health care outcomes throughout the world.<\/p>\n\n\n

Jessica Behrhorst<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Behrhorst works in the areas of patient safety, workforce safety and high reliability and is a faculty member for the IHI Patient Safety Executive Development and Redesigning Event Review with Root Cause Analysis and Action programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interactive session, sponsored by the UNMC College of Public Health\u2019s Center for Biosecurity, Biopreparedness and Emerging Infectious Diseases and its ECHO Program, is designed for health care staff and leaders interested in learning about the essential elements of establishing and maintaining a culture centered on patient safety. Topics will include foundations for building a culture of safety, driving improvement in patient safety and supporting staff safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her time at the institute, Behrhorst has led large-scale projects with both government agencies and private sector hospitals and health systems. She has presented her work at various regional and national meetings. She has worked on research projects involving reducing sepsis mortality and access to healthcare for underserved populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNMC College of Public Health\u2019s Project ECHO<\/a> aims to assist critical access hospitals in rapidly developing their capabilities to consistently implement evidence-based best practices in health care systems preparedness and emergency response. Tuesday\u2019s forum is open to critical access hospital staff, health care leaders, long-term care facility staff, public health professionals, hospital human resource managers, emergency preparedness professionals, frontline workers and nursing staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
