{"id":92652,"date":"2022-10-24T15:01:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T20:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=92652"},"modified":"2025-02-21T14:29:23","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T20:29:23","slug":"dr-shillcutt-highlights-her-new-book-brave-boundaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/10\/24\/dr-shillcutt-highlights-her-new-book-brave-boundaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Shillcutt highlights her book, &#8216;Brave Boundaries&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The med center employee resource group RISE held a discussion Oct. 12 to highlight Sasha Shillcutt, MD, and her new book, \u201cBrave Boundaries: Strategies to Say No, Stand Strong, and Take Control of Your Time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Shillcutt, a professor in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology and a cardiac anesthesiologist with Nebraska Medicine, shared her personal and professional expertise on how to overcome burnout by learning to set clear work-life boundaries.&nbsp;Keys to her success include focusing on how to control her time and addressing the cycle of self-criticism and the social expectations of women in the medical workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dr. Sasha Shillcutt - Brave Boundaries Launch\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FQdp0a1surQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Shillcutt asked three questions to decide whether taking on additional tasks fits into someone&#8217;s goals: Is this part of the company\u2019s strategic plans? What funds or resources follow the request? And what is it I am being paid to do that will need to be paused for this unpaid task to get done?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Shillcutt also advises visualizing and practicing setting boundaries to be prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTake a moment and imagine what setting the boundary would be like. Reality will be easier than the narrative you created in your mind,\u201d Dr. Shillcutt said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Shillcutt\u2019s book contains a helpful and easy-to-follow &#8220;Brave Boundaries
