{"id":92755,"date":"2022-10-25T14:38:09","date_gmt":"2022-10-25T19:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=92755"},"modified":"2022-10-31T17:30:09","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T22:30:09","slug":"residency-director-of-the-month-november-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/10\/25\/residency-director-of-the-month-november-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Residency director of the month, November 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><strong>Name:<\/strong> Alissa Marr, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medical school attended:<\/strong> UNMC<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Location of your residency\/fellowship training: <\/strong>UNMC for both, but I also did a chief resident year for internal medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What residency\/fellowship program at UNMC are you serving as program director for?<\/strong> Hematology\/oncology<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Number of trainees:<\/strong> Nine&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How long have you been the program director?<\/strong> Three years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What made you chose to become the program director?<\/strong> I always have enjoyed the educational aspect of academic medicine. And I am obviously proud of the training we provide at UNMC, so it seemed like the perfect fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?<\/strong> The pandemic and switch to virtual meetings\/conferences has added the extra challenge of keeping colleagues truly connected. Providing solid education while still fostering collegial work relationships is the key to a successful and satisfying training program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the strengths of your training program?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide our fellows exposure to a broad spectrum of hematologic and oncologic cases, with everything from the bread-and-butter cancer cases to complex second opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our faculty are experts in their field but always have an open-door policy for our fellows to discuss cases with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List some accomplishments that you are proud of:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I always am proud to see our fellows graduate and land the job they had hoped for. I am especially proud of how many of our recent graduates have stayed on as faculty here at UNMC.<\/li><li>I am a proud mom of two little, very active boys.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us three things about you that others may not know:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I actually am a pretty good cook. If I had to choose a career outside of medicine, it would be in the culinary arts.<\/li><li>I was exceedingly shy until my senior year of high school, when my parents put me in debate club to try and build confidence in my public speaking abilities. I haven\u2019t stopped talking since. <\/li><li>During our international rotation in internal medicine residency, I was \u201cmugged\u201d by a baboon in South Africa. Thankfully, he took my purse and ran!<\/li><\/ul>\n<!-- <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" title=\"RrxsAUiDPNe\">RrxsAUiDPNe<\/a>
