{"id":92783,"date":"2022-10-26T16:05:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=92783"},"modified":"2022-10-26T12:27:05","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T17:27:05","slug":"new-faculty-spotlight-pooneh-bagher-phd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/10\/26\/new-faculty-spotlight-pooneh-bagher-phd\/","title":{"rendered":"New faculty spotlight: Pooneh Bagher, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Pooneh Bagher, PhD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Name:<\/strong> Pooneh Bagher, PhD<\/li><li><strong>Hometown:<\/strong> La Porte, Texas<\/li><li><strong>Title and department at UNMC:<\/strong> Associate professor of cellular and integrative physiology, director of the vascular research program for UNMC\u2019s Center for Heart and Vascular Research<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research\/professional interests:<\/strong> Vascular function in physiological, pathophysiological and extreme physiological conditions, such as spaceflight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How I fell in love with vascular physiology:<\/strong> I became interested in microvascular physiology as an undergraduate student in the laboratory of Terrence Sweeney, PhD. At that time, I read Dr. Robert Furchgott\u2019s Nobel Prize-winning work on the role of the endothelium and nitric oxide on blood vessel function. My fascination with the endothelium was sparked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bachelor of Science, University of Scranton, Neuroscience and Biomathematics<\/li><li>PhD, Cornell University, Molecular and Integrative Physiology<\/li><li>Post-doctoral, University of Missouri, Medical Pharmacology and Physiology<\/li><li>Post-doc, University of Oxford, Pharmacology<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Memberships:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Microcirculatory Society (President-Elect)<\/li><li>International Society for Gravitational Physiology (Board of Directors)<\/li><li>American Physiological Society<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Three things people may not know about me:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I was a professional radio DJ.<\/li><li>I have two cats, Zeus and Gizmo.<\/li><li>I enjoy going to art museums and listening to a wide variety of
