The leaders of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine have issued a proclamation recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, chancellor of UNMC, and James Linder, MD, chief executive officer of Nebraska Medicine, signed the special med center proclamation this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proclamation, which was presented to UNMC\u2019s Munroe-Meyer Institute, recognizes October as the 77th annual National Disability Employment Awareness Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It encourages employers, schools and community organizations across Omaha and Nebraska to advance the important message \u201cthat people with disabilities add value and talent to our workplaces and communities.\u201d UNMC and Nebraska Medicine pledge to continue to take steps throughout the year to recruit, hire, retain and advance individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gold said the proclamation recognizes \u201cthe openness and the welcome of UNMC and our clinical partners to employees with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it’s a year-long process,\u201d he added. \u201cWe need to be continually aware and welcoming every month, every day for all employees. We need to not only welcome them into the organization, but we need to make them successful and always feel a highly valued part of the med center family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Said Dr. Linder, \u201cThe country has a great opportunity to partner with everyone who can contribute to the workforce. And this activity this month raises awareness of the contributions that people with disabilities can make.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
