Chilled water services have been successfully restored to all med center buildings impacted by last week\u2019s water line leak, including Eppley Science Hall, Poynter Hall and Eppley Cancer Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday night, medical center Facilities Management and Planning teams restored chilled water services to three remaining campus buildings: Eppley Science Hall, Poynter Hall and Eppley Cancer Institute. That followed the successful restoration of services, late Saturday night, to buildings including the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, Hixson-Lied Center, Clarkson Tower and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Med center buildings and some large clinical and research equipment, including ultralow freezers, are cooled using the chilled water system, which pumps cold water to the buildings through a grid of distribution piping. With the restoration of chilled water services, normal operations may resume in all campus buildings, and ultralow freezers will be monitored as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the coming days, facilities crews will backfill the two dig sites, as well as pour concrete and restore landscaping, as needed. Facilities reminds the medical center community that the sites, near the Eppley courtyard and in front of Durham Research Center I and II, will remain an active construction zone \u2013 please respect the safety perimeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
