Nurse practitioner week recognized<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC College of Nursing students and nurse practitioner leaders were on hand Nov. 7 to receive a proclamation signed by Gov. Pete Ricketts declaring Nov. 13-19 National Nurse Practitioner Week in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda Kliment, clinical assistant professor in the CON-Lincoln Division, led the group to the State Capital to witness the proclamation, which recognizes the impact these frontline providers have on the state and the vital role they play in public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juliann Sebastian, PhD, dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, offered her congratulations and said nurse practitioners provide an answer to the growing demand for primary care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNurse practitioners not only mitigate the effect of shortages of primary care providers, but they add a unique element of nursing philosophies of care and health promotion,\u201d she said. \u201cCongratulations to our nurse practitioner faculty and students on this recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raymond to join two dean search committees <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Raymond, vice president-chief information and innovation officer, Nebraska Medicine, will serve on both the UNMC College of Nursing dean search committee and the College of Dentistry dean search committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will fill the committee seats formerly held by Michael Ash, MD, who has stepped down as he takes on the role of executive vice president\u2013chief operating officer for Nebraska Medicine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student awarded STFM Foundation Student Scholarship  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark Carter, a medical student at UNMC, has been awarded a STFM Foundation Student Scholarship from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine to participate in the 2023 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 27 awards were given for 2023. All recipients receive free registration to attend and present a poster at the 2023 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education on Jan. 26-29 in New Orleans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carter plans to present a poster at the conference, titled, “Demographic patterns of telehealth utilization in an academic HIV clinic during COVID.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Retirements announced<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
