{"id":94516,"date":"2023-01-11T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=94516"},"modified":"2023-01-11T10:26:22","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T16:26:22","slug":"dr-kuhn-honored-with-national-innovation-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/01\/11\/dr-kuhn-honored-with-national-innovation-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Kuhn honored with national innovation award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Brett Kuhn, PhD, a diplomat of behavioral sleep medicine and professor of psychology at the Munroe-Meyer Institute and UNMC, was honored with the Society of&nbsp;Behavioral Sleep&nbsp;Medicine\u2019s 2022 Outstanding Innovation in BSM Service Delivery Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kuhn directs the behavioral sleep medicine clinic at the Children\u2019s Sleep Disorders Center, where he supervises medical residents, sleep fellows, and psychology interns in the assessment and treatment of pediatric sleep disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine presents&nbsp;the&nbsp;award to a society member who has \u201cmade significant evidence supporting innovation success to behavioral sleep medicine as exemplified by innovations in community engagement and technology to increase access to BSM services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kuhn received the award at the society\u2019s awards and recognition reception Nov. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kuhn said he\u2019s honored and humbled to receive the national award from his peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have spent much of my 30-year psychology career working to develop novel treatments for children and adolescents with sleep problems,\u201d he said. \u201cI was fortunate enough to have several excellent supervisors and mentors&nbsp;during my formative training years. I simply took what they taught me and applied it to pediatric sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kuhn also said he\u2019s indebted to all the children and sleep-deprived parents he has worked with in clinic throughout the years.&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m still learning from them each and every day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keith Allen, PhD, director and professor of psychology at MMI, said that to MMI\u2019s benefit, Dr. Kuhn is widely recognized nationally as an expert on sleep disorders in children. As a result, Dr. Allen said, interns want to come here just to train with him, which adds \u201cto the national stature and draw of our internship program.\u201d<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\"
