The National Institutes of Health announced a\u00a0new data management & sharing (DMS) policy<\/a>\u00a0to foster good data stewardship, which will go into effect on Jan. 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prepare UNMC researchers and staff for this change, an open forum with a question-and-answer session is being offered today at noon, and additional training sessions are planned throughout January. (See sidebar at right for session information.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This updated policy will require that all NIH applications for projects generating scientific data must include a detailed plan for how the data will be managed and shared during the entire funding period. In addition to the written plan, project budgets must include line items to request funds toward data management and sharing, along with appropriate budget justification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC researchers and staff who submit NIH applications are encouraged to attend these informational sessions and to review the information and resources available on UNMC\u2019s DMS Policy page<\/a>. Additional information about the DMS policy in general can be found on the NIH website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional open forums will continue to be held quarterly throughout the year to provide ongoing updates as more information comes out from the NIH and as further UNMC-specific resources become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
