Dr. Scarsi wins pharmacy teaching honor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kim Scarsi, PharmD, professor of pharmacy practice and science, was named Distinguished Teacher of the Year at the UNMC College of Pharmacy\u2019s fall honors celebration. The honoree is chosen by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kimberly Gollhofer, P4 president, presented the award and read a selection of praise from her peers for Dr. Scarsi, including: \u201cShe is empathetic, approachable and dedicated to her students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students also lauded Dr. Scarsi as a mentor who cares for them as people and is available to help in times of need. Dr. Scarsi coordinates the infectious diseases section of pharmacotherapy and teaches on topics related to HIV infection and associated opportunistic infections, hormonal contraception and antimicrobial pharmacokinetics. She also co-coordinates an elective on advanced topics in HIV therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record-breaking blanket drive completed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the start of the new year, Fostering the Future\u2019<\/a>s record-breaking 2022 Blanket Drive has come to a close. As a student-led, interprofessional Office of Community Engagement Legacy Project, UNMC\u2019s Fostering the Future<\/a> aims to provide high quality resources and education to meet the needs of at-risk youth phasing out of the foster care system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utilizing strong support from UNMC students, faculty, staff and their families, the blanket drive made a record 200 blankets. The blankets were delivered and distributed to philanthropic organizations with similar mission statements, providing services and resources to at-risk youth in the Omaha community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the organizations receiving the blankets were Omaha\u2019s Project Everlast, Partnership 4 Kids, Project Harmony and the Open Door Mission. The next blanket drive will be toward the end of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free UNO women’s basketball tickets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC faculty and staff can receive six free tickets to Saturday\u2019s University of Nebraska at Omaha women\u2019s basketball game against Oral Roberts. The game is at 2:05 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNO is celebrating its women’s basketball alumni, their past successes and Title IX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
